This guide covers everything you need: the tools, the measurements, the exact steps, and answers to the questions homeowners ask most before and during installation.
Compatibility note: This guide applies to most Prodillo mortise-style smart locks. Always refer to the drawing sheet included in your specific lock's box for precise hole dimensions, as they vary slightly by model.
What You'll Need Before You Start
Gathering everything before you touch the door will save you significant frustration. Here's what you'll need:
Required Tools (not included):
- Phillips-head screwdriver
- Drill with appropriate drill bits and a chisel
- Angle grinder or hacksaw (to cut the spindle and long screws to your door's exact thickness)
- Ruler or tape measure
- Safety glasses and protective gloves
- Pliers
Items You'll Need to Purchase Separately:
- 4× AA batteries — These are not included with the lock. Use fresh, high-quality alkaline batteries for best performance.

Step 1: Prepare Your Door
Before any drilling or cutting, confirm your door is compatible. Most Prodillo smart locks are designed for doors 35–55 mm thick, made of wood, aluminum, or composite materials.
Check these four measurements:
1. Door thickness — measure at the edge of the door, not the face
2. Existing backset — distance from door edge to the center of any existing lock hole
3. Door swing direction — left-hand or right-hand opening (this affects handle orientation)
4. Door edge width — must accommodate the mortise lock body width
Pro tip from Prodillo: Remove any existing lock hardware completely and clean the door edge before marking new openings. Even small debris can cause misalignment.
Step 2: Mark and Cut Door Openings
This is the most critical step — measure twice, cut once.
Using the template/drawing sheet that comes with your Prodillo lock:
1. Tape the provided drawing to the door edge as a cutting guide
2. Mark all hole positions clearly with a pencil — the mortise pocket, the spindle hole, and the cable routing hole
3. Using a drill, chisel, or router, create the mortise pocket in the door edge — this is the rectangular cavity where the lock body sits
4. Drill the spindle hole (square opening) through the door face where the handles will pass
5. Drill a smaller cable routing hole for the power cord to pass through
Safety first: Always wear your safety glasses and gloves during this step. If using an angle grinder to cut the spindle or long screws, secure the pieces in a vice before cutting.
Step 3: Install the Mortise Lock Body
1. Insert the mortise lock body into the mortise pocket you've just created
2. Align the faceplate flush with the door edge
3. Secure the mortise body with the provided screws — firm, but not overtightened
4. Adjust handle direction: The front and rear handles can be reversed to match left-hand or right-hand door openings. Do this now before mounting the panels — it's much harder to change later.
Step 4: Cut the Spindle and Screws to Size
This step is where most DIYers make a costly mistake. Prodillo's installation manual specifically warns: do not cut the spindle or long screws too short.
Here's the correct process:
1. Measure your door thickness carefully, including the depth into both the front lock panel and the back lock panel
2. Note the total combined length the spindle needs to span
3. Using an angle grinder or hacksaw, cut both the square spindle and the long screws to the measured length
4. Also install the screw tubes onto the screws on the back of the front panel — use pliers to tighten to appropriate firmness (not too loose, not too tight)
Step 5: Mount the Front Panel
1. Thread the power cord from the front panel through the cable routing hole in the door
2. Insert the square spindle through the spindle hole
3. Place the front lock panel against the door face, aligning it with all openings
4. You should see the screw tubes, spindle, and power cord visible from the interior side
Step 6: Attach the Back Panel
1. Insert the spring into the back panel's square lock hole
2. Connect the power cord into the back panel's male connector — pay close attention to the direction of the connector
3. Align the spindle with the back panel's spindle hole and push the back panel onto the door, making sure the spring stays seated in the square hole
4. Insert the privacy lock piece into the corresponding hole on the front lock
5. Once everything is aligned, insert the long screws through from the front panel into the screw tubes and tighten securely
Step 7: Insert Batteries and Test
1. Insert 4× AA batteries into the back panel's battery compartment
2. Test the handle, thumb-turn, and physical key before closing the door — always verify mechanical operation first
3. Download the TTLock app on your iPhone or Android device
4. Follow the in-app pairing process to connect your Prodillo lock to your smartphone
5. Configure your access codes, fingerprints, or remote access settings
App tip: Stay within 1 meter of the lock during Bluetooth pairing and allow the calibration sequence to finish on its own — don't interrupt it.
